MonteCedro - Altadena, CA

MonteCedro is a nonprofit Life Plan community for adults 62 and older, combining independent living with assisted living, memory support and customizable care services. Its defining characteristic is the way residential living, health services, dining, recreation and lifelong-learning programming operate as one campus. That structure gives prospective residents a different housing model from conventional age-restricted communities: the residence is part of a continuing-care system rather than a separately purchased home. MonteCedro opened in 2015 and is undergoing a 40-residence Phase II expansion.

Independent-living accommodations include one- and two-bedroom apartments and villa residences. The current published floor plans range from 750 to 1,895 square feet, with private balconies or patios, full kitchens, walk-in closets and washers and dryers. The FY2025 state disclosure reported 183 independent-living apartments plus 20 memory-care residences. Phase II adds 40 independent-living apartments in four villa-style buildings. MonteCedro uses an entrance-fee model rather than conventional home sales; current monthly pricing varies by residence and contract.

MonteCedro's campus includes a heated saltwater swimming pool, fitness center, performing-arts auditorium, Eaton Theater, art studio, library, game room and Mariposa Spa & Salon. Dining is offered through three restaurant-style venues, while Creative Living Academy provides classes and activities supporting lifelong learning. Other resident services include transportation, housekeeping, maintenance, secure under-building parking, walking paths, courtyards and patios, 24-hour emergency response, an on-campus health and wellness service and licensed nursing coverage.

MonteCedro's Altadena address places residents within the greater Pasadena area, near the San Gabriel Mountains, Old Pasadena and regional cultural institutions. ECS identifies hiking trails, sidewalk cafes and boutiques in Old Pasadena, the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena Conservatory of Music, Pasadena Symphony & Pops, Pasadena Playhouse, Altadena Public Library and The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens among nearby destinations. The community also identifies access to Metro and shuttle services and three regional airports: LAX, Burbank and Ontario.
