Benefits of Being Over 55

If you are feeling depressed after your 55th birthday, don’t be. Did you know that there are a number of surprising benefits of being over 55? These can be in just about every area of your life. If you were feeling sorry for yourself, now that you are a senior, here are a few benefits you never even thought about.

Reduced Premiums on your Insurance

At 55, most insurance companies may not consider giving you any insurance. However, once you are 55, you qualify for the AARP Driver Safety Course. This can earn you discounts on your annual premiums. Sometimes, in some states, this discount is mandatory by law. So, find out about your reduced insurance premium by contacting AARP.

Free Legal Advice

This is a great benefit. If you have any legal queries of any kind, you can have an attorney who will provide you with free legal advice for half an hour. This, of course, is if you are a member of the AARP. However, there are also free legal helplines for seniors in various states that they can take advantage of.

Free or Discounted Continuing Education

Once you pass the age of 55 and wish to continue your education, you can consider taking credit-earning college courses for free. However, this benefit depends on your income. For example, if your taxable income base, in the previous year, exceeded $15,000, you are not eligible for the free courses, although you can get some benefits.

Active Adult Community

Another benefit of turning 55 is you get to live in an active adult community. These are retirement communities that provide you with various amenities and beautifully appointed homes where you can enjoy your golden years with people the same age as you.

Other Perks of Being 55

When you are 55, you get various discounts at different places. For example, many restaurants have low-priced senior buffets and brunches or you get a certain percentage off your bill. You also have discounts at museums, movie theaters, bowling alleys, and golf courses among others. Grocery store discounts and airline discounts too are some other perks of being 55.

These are just some of the benefits of being over 55. There are so many more. So, you see, you don’t have to feel upset about turning 55. In fact, this is the perfect opportunity to make the most of your advanced years.
