Summer is undoubtedly the best time to take a road trip. Take your time to breath in the gorgeous countryside, the monuments, museums, meet people along the way and take in the sunshine. A road trip in an RV would be awesome but even if you don’t have your own RV, you can always take your car and “hit the road”. One suggestion on your road trip is visit the many US National Parks. Most of the 100 National Parks which normally charge for entry offer free admission on select weekends in 2014. The next scheduled free day is the 25th of August which is in commemoration of National Park Service Birthday.
What are Free Admission Days?
As you well know, most places charge entry fees for admission. Fee Free Days are days when many of the National Parks reduce or waive transportation entrance fees and commercial tour fees. Of the 398 US National Parks, 265 do not charge for entrance.
If you are considering visiting multiple national parks, this summer, you can benefit by buying an annual pass for $80. This pass enables you to visit all the national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests and many more Federal lands. Generally seniors over the age of 62 get a $10 lifetime pass (which is also offered to all active duty military members and their dependents).
Dates for Fee Free Days
National Parks waive or reduce park fees on the following days.
• January 20, 2014: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
• February 15-17, 2014: Presidents Day weekend
• April 19-20, 2014: opening weekend of National Park Week
• August 25, 2014: National Park Service Birthday
• September 27, 2014: National Public Lands Day
• November 11, 2014: Veterans Day
