Right Nutrition Will Take You a Long Way in the Path of Healthy Living

Nutrition can be described as food or nourishment required to keep an organism growing and healthy. People need a constant source of nutrition to keep themselves healthy. A nutritious food item has a rich amount of nutrients in comparison to foods filled with fats and sugar. Junk food is never the answer as it is filled with fats, sugars, and oil which if consumed too often will make you overweight and unhealthy.

What Should You Be Eating?

As an adult over the age of 50, it is best recommended to eat healthy always, so you stay healthy. There are a lot of foods, high in nutrition, which have various properties for the benefit of your body. Here is what you should be eating:

  • Nuts: Nuts contain a high amount of fiber, which makes them a good snack option for when you get hungry between meals. They are also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Almonds are loaded with calcium, Vitamin E, proteins, riboflavin, magnesium, and iron. Almonds contain monounsaturated fat, which may reduce the level of cholesterol in your body. It is recommended that a handful of nuts be eaten every day.
  • Fish: Fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, and this can help prevent heart diseases. They can also support brain function in addition to healthy growth and development. Fish can easily be included in your diet via curries to be eaten with rice or tuna sandwiches. Salmon is especially good as it also contains phosphorus, Vitamin B ,and selenium apart from Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Whole Grains: Grains are high in fiber, and they are also low energy density choices. Examples of whole grains are whole wheat bread, brown rice, and oatmeal. Whole grain pasta is another option too and it can be a nutritious dinner solution. Whole grain foods in your diet can reduce your chances of developing bowel disorders, colon cancer, and other diseases. Whole grains must be included in your diet every day.
  • Dairy Products: Dairy products such as milk, cheese, and eggs are important items in any diet. Low fat and non-fat dairy products are recommended as these products contain high levels of saturated fats which if consumed in large amounts can lead to heart disease.
  • Fruits and Vegetables: These must be eaten every day. Fruits can be eaten in between meals if you tend to get hungry. They will fill you up and you will not crave other food items which contain fats and sugar. Vegetables can be included in your lunch and dinner. Boiled or sautéed, they are perfect accompaniments to bread and pasta. Broccoli will provide your system with phytonutrients. It is full of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, folate, fiber, and potassium.
