Listed the second safest city by Forbes, and rich in amenities, and entertainment, it’s no surprise that Henderson Nevada became the destination of choice for Del Webb’s luxury 55+ community of Sun City Anthem. Henderson is the state’s second largest city, and caters to boomers, and retirees offering a wealth of attractions, recreation, and affordable housing. This Mojave Desert oasis became a member of AARP’s age friendly communities in 2015, and is committed to proving an active, and accommodating lifestyle with an efficient public transportation system, and programs designed for older adults.

Becoming a member of AARP’s list of age friendly communities means cities are dedicated to serving all age groups, with services, and amenities available to seniors, and retirees. Henderson’s 29,667 square foot Heritage Park Senior center has it all for active lifestyles with everything from a fitness center, and dance room, to a commercial kitchen, cafe, and wellness center. Available to anyone 50 or better, this facility is a great place to escape the desert heat.

Henderson has become a popular spot for retirement living, and snowbirds craving warmer weather. Sure it’s the desert, but there is certainly no shortage of activity for the 55+ outdoor enthusiast. Championship golf courses designed by big name architects such as Arthur Hills, and Lee Schmidt, provide challenging layouts amidst picturesque settings. Bicyclists, and hikers will love exploring trails that stretch over 180 miles with varied difficulty levels.

According to Kiplinger, Nevada is tax friendly with no state income, social security, or estate and inheritance tax. Empty nesters, or retirees on fixed incomes will find cost of living to be lower, with affordable home options, and active lifestyle communities providing options from apartment living to single family floor plans. Henderson boasts state of the art medical centers such as Seven Hills Hospital, and offers services for the 50 + crowd including a drivers safety course, and employment program.

Active adults are within driving distance of Las Vegas with all of the glitz, shopping, and over the top fine dining sin city is known for. Water Street District is a charming walkable town that is ideally set up with plenty of sidewalks, and street side seating areas equipped to accommodate mobility devices. Henderson’s motto “A Place to Call Home” couldn’t be more fitting, and it’s the perfect destination to enjoy your second youth.
