Benefits of Raw Honey

Raw unfiltered honey in all its golden glory is one of nature's most precious foods.  It's antibacterial, and beneficial enzyme properties have been recognized since biblical times as a medicinal elixir, and revered for it's beautiful sweet taste. You'll find it looks different from the usual store bought honey,  because it has not been heated through a pasteurization process. Sometimes it's solidified with a creamy opaque appearance, and can vary in color depending on the flower origin.

Raw honey contains bee propolis, which is the waxy substance produced to shield the hive from bacteria.  Sometimes called "bee glue", propolis is used as a powerful antioxidant, and antiviral.  Studies have shown evidence of anti cancer properties, and reduced inflammation.

Soothe minor burns by applying a bit of raw honey. The natural antiseptic quality promotes wound healing, and is an effective antibacterial.  An article published by the U.S National Library of Medicine, shows honey to be an effective wound salve by actually drying out harmful bacteria, and helping to prevent infection.

When cold, and flu season hits, honey is ready for action as an effective cough suppressant, and sore throat soother.  Hot lemon water with honey is a remedy as old as time proven to relieve the pain of a raw throat, and honey taken on it's own is a wonderful way to silence a cough without the harmful chemicals found in cough syrup.

A literal goldmine of essential vitamins, and minerals, honey contains B6, niacin, riboflavin as well as iron, and potassium. Nature's little energy shot, its a great post workout carbohydrate that can help regulate blood sugar, and aid in recovery.

Clover honey tends to be the typical option in stores, but if you can find them, buckwheat, orange blossom or the prized Manuka honey from New Zealand are absolutely delicious!
