Dairy free options

Remember when the only non dairy option was soy with a side of soy? Whether you're lactose intolerant or choosing to eliminate it from your diet, the choices available nowadays are endless. Sure you could pop one of those lactose tablets, but why would you when there are so many delicious products to choose from? Skipping the dairy is more common than ever, and finding alternatives to everything from cream cheese to yogurt couldn't be easier, AND cholesterol free!

Lets talk milk.  Head to your supermarket and you'll be amazed to find an array of different varieties such as almond, oat, cashew, hazelnut and even hemp! Most of these products have been fortified with calcium, and vitamin D so you're getting all the benefits the dairy industry says you only get from cow's milk. If you have a high speed blender such as a Vitamix, it's easy to make your own milk at home. Blend soaked nuts such as almonds with water, and strain through a mesh bag for the creamiest milk you'll ever taste without the additives.

Ok, i'll admit giving up cheese seemed impossible until I discovered brands such as  Daiya, and Follow Your Heart that are absolutely delicious, and even melt like real cheese!  Believe it or not, raw cashews blended with nutritional yeast and spices creates a heavenly, cheesy sauce that can be poured over pasta, vegetables or nachos.

Ice cream is usually the "food group" folks mourn over when they go dairy free. Brands like Coconut Bliss, and So Delicious make incredible ice creams with flavors like cookie dough, that won't leave you feeling deprived.  Did I mention they now make coconut whipped cream?Toss those pills, and experience a new way to enjoy your favorite foods while feeling good about it!
